Note: this layout is participating in the CIRROPS 2012 Operations Weekend.
The Louisville and Nashville’s Laurel River Division is the setting for the railroad. Running north and south, this line covers the area between Newport, Kentucky and Kingsport, Virginia. Primarily a coal route with several coal load outs, mixed freights, piggybacks and passenger trains are routine. Steep hills showcase the around Glen Jean, Tracey and the Yard at Dante. A large truss bridge will span the Laurel River in the future. The layout features a run through staging area eliminating the need to turn trains for restaging. All track is hand laid and turnouts are hand built. Layout uses Digitrax DCC with train movement dictated by central dispatcher and car card and waybills for car movement.
